Seeing what you hear appear

Today was a great day for so many reasons. Our events are getting booked, my associate gave a great presentation to the Optimists, an entrepreneur called and allowed me to connect an unemployed friend with his new project, and a counselling session turned into a new sign up for our entrepreneurship course.

Yet all these great events don’t compare to what they represent. For several months I have been listening to CD’s on motivation, performance, marketing, and goal achievement on my 35 minute drive to and from work. Brian Tracy, John Maxwell, Stephen Covey, Seth Godin, Darren Hardy, Jim Rohn, Mark Sanborn, Guy Kawasaki, have all planted ideas in my head. Some of  the ideas are so intriguing I put them into my daily routine. Most I have shared with others which is an idea many of them recommended.

What is most remarkable to me is watching what I am hearing actually appearing with increasing regularity. For example, a successful business owner walked into our office today to pay for an event by check. He was a restaurateur I had been trying to set up a meeting for months. Our goal and was to increase restaurant participation in our 5 Star Southern Hospitality Training program and I had been thinking about how to get these people to return emails and how important this was to our metrics. He walks in and as soon as I heard his first name, I KNEW that was him. 30 minutes later we are discussing getting together to share training and employee motivation approaches.

Later today, I had also written a goal of adding an angel investor group to our network of funding sources and out of the blue the founder of the local group calls me to introduce himself to me. He has spent a year setting up an accredited angel program and just wanted to see if we could work together.

Call it the law of attraction, the law of sowing and reaping, or the my law of cause and effect. As Brian Tracy preaches, what you think about most of the time is what you achieve. All I know is since I started investing time each morning thinking, visualizing, and writing down what I wanted to have happen, and listening to tapes on the subconscious mind, the universe keeps sending opportunities to me when I least expect them. And the irony is that I have reached the point of expecting something good to unexpectedly appear each day.

Here’s the scary part. The vehicle I bought in October had 10 days left on its monthly XM radio subscription. I got so hooked on it that I almost spent $150 to insure I could listen to 4 different sports talk shows and 8 genre’s of rock and roll. But the day the subscription died, unbeknownst to me until it happened, I popped in a Success Magazine CD and listened to Darren Hardy challenge me about where my time was going. After a night of mental wrestling with the decision, I renewed my subscription to Success and order some additional tapes. A little change in what I hear has had a major change in what now appears in my life.

I hope someone who reads this understands how the decisions you make about where to put your time and mind really do change what appears in your life. Especially if you have a 30 minute commute to work:)

One more thing I would like to mention is that as an alternative to trying to suit all your online degree tutorials on days that you complete work (since the majority of people are worn out when they get home), try to get most of your instructional classes on the weekends and only a few courses for weekdays, even if it means a little time off your saturdays. This is beneficial because on the weekends, you will be much more rested and also concentrated with school work. Thanks a lot for the different recommendations I have discovered from your site.
